Reading: “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”—Ephesians 6:13

Daily DevotionalsHow do you deal with sin in your life? Some try to “do it all”; they think they can overcome sin in the strength of the flesh. Others take a “do nothing” approach and believe that the Christian is to “let go and let God”; the idea is that they can do nothing and that God expects them to give the fight over to Him. The one view suggests that sin can be defeated by human power; the other view suggests that sin will not be conquered until God deals with it. Both the “do all” and “do nothing” approaches are wrong. God does not intend that we fight sin on our own; neither does He intend that we sit and wait for Him to deliver us.

God holds us responsible for our own sin and for our sanctification. He has given us the commands to resist the devil, to flee youthful lusts, to put on armour, etc. He tells us to be holy, to be pure and separate from sin. But with these commands God graciously provides the resources for us to carry them out. Let us put on the amour provided in the Word that we may be able to “withstand in the evil day.”
