MIS85-2

“Paul defines his post-conversion life simply: in Christ he now does ‘works befitting repentance’ (Acts 26:20). This idea that we repent and we serve is also reflected in the words of the last of the Old Testament prophets, John the Baptist, who prepares the way of the Lord by warning the religious people of his day to ‘Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand!’ (Matt. 3:2) and after repenting, to ‘bear fruits worthy of repentance’ (Matt. 3:8). And Jesus himself warns us against failing to count the costs of discipleship or of testing ourselves in the faith…” (Matthew 7:21–23). (p. 36).
