Reading: Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. Isaiah 6:8

The spectacular vision of the Lord sitting upon His throne, high and lifted up, had a dramatic and profound impact on the prophet Isaiah. He immediately understood that this was holy ground. Isaiah was face to face with the King of glory.

As Isaiah pondered the absolute holiness of God, he became acutely conscious of his own uncleanness. The glory and majesty of the Lord had overwhelmed him and he was both humbled and broken. As he stood in humble reverence Isaiah received an assurance that his iniquity had been taken away and his sin had been purged. The touching of his lips with the live coal from the altar was a solemn reminder of the place of blood sacrifice and of the offering that was a sweet savour unto God. God had blessed Isaiah. His sin had been removed and he was accepted in the beloved.

It is no surprise then that when Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” he responded with the words, “Here am I; send me.” Isaiah’s reaction to the call of God was immediate. He was neither hesitant nor reserved in his willingness to go. He was ready to do his Master’s will, ready to engage in his Master’s service, and ready to yield to his Master’s command. Isaiah was a surrendered man. His eyes had seen the King, the Lord of glory, and that sight moved him to service.

Seeing Christ will always have this impact on a believer. Can we view Him who loved us and gave Himself for us and not yield ourselves to Him? Christ is our great King, let us then listen to His call and respond with a willing, unconditional, and wholehearted, “Here am I; send me.”
