Reading: “I will say unto God, do not condemn me; shew me wherefore thou contendest with me.”—Job 10:2

Do you feel the pressing trials of life? Does God seem to hide his face from you? Are his providences afflicting? Have you been brought into bereavement? Is your earthly tabernacle shaken by sickness? Are the pins of it loosening? Are thy worldly circumstances pinching? Is prayer restrained?

Oh, whatever your state may be, refer it to Jesus. Tell your Saviour and Lord that your greatest dread and fear is that you would be mistaken concerning his love for you. Say, as Job did, “Shew me wherefore thou contendest with me.” There is an Achan in the heart; Jesus does not withdraw for nothing. Love is in his lips. Salvation fills the whole soul of Jesus. Fly to him, then and say, Lord, make me what you would have me to be.

Oh! for a word, a whisper from Jesus. I cannot live without it—“I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.” Not all the past enjoyments, experiences, manifestations, will do me any good, until you shine again on my soul. Oh! come then, Lord Jesus! I fly to you as my God, my Saviour, my portion, my all! Never will you say to the praying child, ”Seek ye my face in vain.”
