Reading: “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.”—Psalm 17:15
The least glimpse of Jesus’ face is refreshing to you now, the smallest manifestation of his glory and of his work and the very sound of His voice, in His Word or ordinances. Think, then, what will be thy joy in that morning of the eternal world, when, dropping the veil of flesh, He whom we see now only by faith, will then appear as open to you as to the church above in glory!
What will be your first sight of Jesus? What will be your feelings when, without any intervening medium, you will see Him face to face, and “know even as thou art known?” Appearing in the robes of Christ’s righteousness, which He has not only provided for me, but put on, what praise will flow from my heart, in the full view of the glories of His Person, and the perfection of His righteousness! Surely, Lord, when you behold His face in righteousness, you will be fully satisfied—the rest that your soul has pursued, will pursue no more. Your immortal faculties will seek no more and will need no more. In Christ, the whole is attained.
In Christ, is eternal rest. He is the everlasting centre of all happiness, glory, and joy. We will be so fully satisfied when we awake to this view, that we will be at home. And what is more, it will be an everlasting duration, not only in happiness, but in likeness. And as the coldest iron, put into the fire, partakes of the properties of the fire, until it becomes altogether heated and fiery like it, so in Christ, and with Him, cold as my soul is now, I shall be warmed with His love and from Him.
