Reading: “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.”—Psalm 51:12

Some caricature a life of holiness as joyless drudgery. But the holy person is a happy person. The reverse is true also: the unholy person is an unhappy person. The backslidden Christian is often more miserable than the unregenerate! If you have fallen into sin and have broken fellowship with your Saviour, repent of your backslidings and experience the joy of communion with God again. God is able to restore the joy that the season of disobedience has taken from you. He has given you His Word that you might feel again the joy of hearing His voice. He says “These things have I spoken … that your joy might be full” (John 15:11).
