James attended Brandon College from January 1913 until he enlisted in April 1916, just a couple of months before he was due to graduate. Brandon College later became the catalyst in the Liberal / Fundamentalist controversy in British Columbia, and James was one of the leaders in the fundamentalist cause.

Rose early and finished packing. Visited a number of friends. Received
several callers.

Left Medora. Before leaving we had prayer and got an opportunity of speaking to Mr. … about his soul’s salvation. I arrived in Brandon and we had a farewell
banquet at the college. We had a nice time.
