Daily DevotionalsReading: And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” Romans 8:28

Thought: Nothing will come into my life this year but that which is ordained by God for my highest good.

Meditation: Everything – yes EVERYTHING – that I will experience this year as a Christian in a fallen and cursed world will be filtered through the hands of a sovereign God. He is absolutely sovereign over world affairs, and in the details of my life. Remember, the devil is His, the earth is His and everything in it (Psalm 24:1). He is in full and absolute control.

Everything that I experience in this life (the hurts and disappointments, the failures and falls, the blessings and boons) is controlled and coordinated by Him—and it is all cooperating with Him—for my highest good. I can see the desirable, the comforting and the self-aggrandizing, but He sees what is good for me and He coordinates all things to that end—for my spiritual and eternal good.

I am His, you see, not just by possession but by a “purchased possession” (Ephesians 1:14) and with a specific “purpose” (Romans 8:28). He has a personal stake in my life. He has sovereignly and graciously invested in me with His own blood and He will lose nothing in that investment (Romans 8:38; Philippians 1:6). I will one day enjoy that consummate redemption – a glorified body. Do I trust Him with my life?

This “thought” is taken from the outline of a message preached by pastor Habib Sakr at Grace Chapel, Markham (31st December 2016).
