Reading: “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption”—1 Corinthians 1:30

The evidence of union with Christ is a holy life! It is this relationship to Christ by the Spirit that provides me with the desire to flee sin and to be conformed to holiness. Martin Luther once said, “Us in Christ equals justification; Christ in us equals sanctification.” In 2 Corinthians 5:17 Paul said: “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation.” A life united to Christ undergoes a radical change! It does not mean that in outward practice that individual becomes sinlessly perfect as Christ is, and it does not mean that the change will be evident immediately. It does mean, however, that no man can be in Christ and not experience change in his thinking, desires, and aspirations. These changes will translate in time into his habitual way of life. Being born again is not merely being saved from the penalty of sin, but being delivered from the propensities of sin and the power of sin.
