Reading: “Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge … 2 Peter 1:5

Food Supplements add nutrition to our diet that is not typically, or sufficiently, found in the food we eat. It is a multimillion dollar industry with applications in different areas of life, from body-building to fighting disease. As Christians we are naturally deficient in our Christian lives and we have no resource in us from which to supplement our faith with additional graces.

Where do we get these graces, to what, or to whom can we go? To use the words of Peter many years previously “Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life (John 6:68). God’s “divine power,” through the knowledge of Christ, has provided “all things that pertain to life and godliness” and has “called us to glory and excellence” (Vs. 3). “For this very reason” then, the apostle says you must and you can “supplement (or “add to”) your faith.”

In Christ, and in Christ alone, we can and we must add to our faith excellence, and knowledge, and self-control, and brotherly-kindness, etc.
